Three-act Structure
Of “The Shawshank Redemption” movie
Act 1
Hook:
An angry-looking Andy sits in front of a house at night, loading a gun and drinking straight from the bottle. We then flash forward to Andy on trial for his wife’s murder.
Inciting incident:
Andy enters Shawshank. He sees all the prisoners are shouting, exciting to accuse new mates. Red and his gamble group are bets on new inmates, Red bets on Andy. After that Warden gave his introduction and seems to be strict as in charge.
Lock-in :
Andy found that this is a strict prison, and proof that he is innocent is hard to find. So, his life is stuck in Shawshank. There is no turning back.
Act 2
Rising Action 1:
Andy was beaten and raped by the sisters many times. He fought hard at that time. He wrote his name on the cell. One day he was beaten so badly that he went to infirmly, for this time he stays a month. And bogs get punishment after that the in-charge hit them off. He shifts to another prison.
Mid-point Reversal :
● As the time came, Brooks was free to go new world, before that he release his bird and leave Shawshank. He works at the grocery store but he is not used to that so thinking of submitted some crime and ran back to the prison world. One day he chisels Brooks was here in his apartment and hangs himself.
● Andy receives funds books and music for the Shawshank library from the state. One day he played a song over the mic, he broadcasted the song, everybody listens and feels that song. Warden was not happy with his act and put down in a hole for 2 weeks as a punishment. After that when he came Red and andy were talking about hope.
Rising Action 2 :
A new batch of prisoners came, Tommy Williams one of them. He is a young boy who has been imprisoned by New Zealand. Tommy reaches to andy for helping to get a diploma. So, Andy is a teacher of Tommy they started to the basis. One day Tommy asked Red, what crime Andy did then the Red speaks about the crime, Tommy is shocked. After that Tommy mentions Elmo Blatch a former cellmate who told him explicit details about” murdering a golf pro and his mistress. This is proof that Andy is innocent. Andy directly goes to the Warden and said all the things but Warden is not ready to believe that the story they put Andy in a hole, for this time he is in there for a month.
All is lost :
When Andy in the hole, he received news that Tommy passes the exam, he felt happy about that. One night Warden calls Tommy for a talk after that he orders to kill Tommy. Andy’s one-month punishment is furnished and the warden arrives at his hole and said a fake about Tommy’s death and he increased the punishment of Andy’s. At that time he lost his all hope.
Act 3
3rd Act twist:
Andy and red were talking about a village in Mexico named Zihuatanejo, Andy said that wherever in the future when Red release to prison he would find some things around an old oak tree in Buxton. Here Andy was ready to escape Shawshank.
Climax:
One day, Andy request a rope from Heywood. Heywood mentions this to the dining area, Red was worried about him. That night Andy has completed his works for the warden and he got some orders from Warden to polish his shoe and suits for laundry. At the night he was in his cell, but in the morning, he was not, he escaped from the prison. Warden found out that he arrived at his cell and found a tunnel dig through his wall to pipes.
RED: Andy crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness I can’t even imagine, or maybe I just don’t want to. Five hundred yards… that’s the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile.
He is free now. Andy takes Warden’s suits, shoes, his belonging of banks, and all the valid identification papers. He knew that the warden has never been in the bank he just does paper works. Andy smartly put his all money and send the email to the authorities telling all the truth about Shawshank corruption. Warden read the newspaper about the black money when the police arrive at his door he killed himself.
After 40 years of imprisonment for Red, he finally released out from the Shwanshak. Work in the grocery store like Brooks did. And only one thought always came across his mind, that he had to find Andy and meet him. After 4 years he finds the old oak tree where Andy leaves a letter and money for Red.
Closing image:
After receiving the letter he off to Mexico the village that they were talking about. And then they finally meet and hug.
